July Calendar For A Cause- Watershed Committee of the Ozarks
The Watershed Committee of the Ozarks is an organization “to sustain and improve the water resources of Springfield and Green County through education and effective Management of the region’s watersheds.” The committee began in 1983, and has been positively impacting our community ever since. They participate in water sampling and testing, water quality monitoring education, and outreach efforts in our area. They also created the Watershed Center location at Valley Water Mill Park.
They have an annual “Watershed Summer Gala,” as a fundraiser for their Watershed Center Fellowship program. We helped promote on social media the weeks leading up to the event as well as attending. The event included a silent auction, great food from the local area, and lots of bonding between community friends. There was a Wine Grab and Whiskey Pull, and all the bottles of whiskey, spirits, and wine were all donated by Missouri Spirits, Brown Derby and the staff and board of the Watershed Committee of the Ozarks. There was also a game of Bag Toss and Raffle. The silent auction included donated items from Bass Pro, and a list of local businesses who contributed unique products or services. On top of all the donated items, there was also a lot of donated time by many volunteers who helped make it such a successful night.
There was around $25,000 raised at the 2017 Watershed Summer Gala which is enough to help continue the Watershed Center Fellowship program for the next two years! This fellowship is an effective way to keep the education programs up to date and available for the growing demand of those educated to teach Watershed Center programs.
Watershed Committee of the Ozarks sends out a regular newsletter, and you can also find them on social media outlets or their website for more information!
We are proud to support the Watershed Committee of the Ozarks and all they do for our community.
